The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country: Moseley Bog consultation
As part of the Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country's conservation plans, they wanted to promote the unique character of Moseley Bog and Joy's Wood to a public audience.
Deliverables
To help engage the local residents with the proposals, a range of printed materials were required that would be used across the community through schools, libraries and other areas of local interest.
Crayfish Design were engaged to provide the illustration, brochure design and production of materials, that would involve the creation of visuals to convey potential development and highlight key changes within the site.

Concept and understanding
Moseley Bog and Joy's Wood is a conservation area in Birmingham that has a special character and unique history. As a childhood playground of author JRR Tolkien, it is believed to have provided invaluable inspiration for his novels The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
In developing plans for this special area, the aim of the Trust has been to maximise the benefit people can gain from appreciating and understanding the site, whilst respecting and conserving its special character.
Solution
We felt that the most effective way to present the potential developments within the site was to take a photo-realistic approach. To demonstrate the changes we employed a combination of digital compositing and 3d visualisation methods. This would provide a real richness to the visuals that could then be applied across several media, including brochures and posters.
To support the collateral we enlisted the services of a wildlife photographer who was familiar with the area, in order to source imagery that would prove sympathetic to the setting. We believed that the photographer's unique knowledge would also be vital in contributing to an overall perspective that would reflect the thoughts of local residents.
What the client said
"I have worked with Crayfish Design on a number of projects and they have surpassed our expectations every time. In particular, the visualisations they produced for Moseley Bog are outstanding. For projects such as Moseley Bog we require local resident approval and these visualisations enable us to carry out our plans without any objections. They deliver on time and within budget, which as a Not For Profit organisation is crucial. I look forward to working with them for a long time to come."
